I believe a complete resume should do more than list accomplishments. It should also reflect the character, values, and resilience of the person behind the experience. This document is my attempt to share who I am — not just what I’ve done.
Resilience & Grit
I put myself through college without financial assistance, juggling multiple jobs and graduating with honors — debt-free. At one point, unable to afford a car, I hitchhiked 12 miles to school daily for a year. I even attempted to bike the distance, but the load of books and harsh weather made it unsustainable.
Time was a constant challenge. I once stayed awake for five consecutive days to meet work and academic demands. I even taught myself to read two books simultaneously — side by side — to maximize learning.
When my first car broke down early in my career, I walked 14 miles 5 days a week for a month to borrow a relative’s car and get to work. I even stopped at the repair shop, which was on my way, each day to help the mechanic fix my vehicle.
After reaching a career ceiling that required a Master’s degree, I enrolled in graduate school part-time. It took six years, but I graduated with honors. I graduated in National Honor Societies in High School, in my undergraduate program, and in my graduate degree program. I have always pursued knowledge with passion.
I’ve also taught myself various trades to finish building my own home over the term of a decade.
I’m an avid reader, having read many of the world’s great religious and philosophical texts cover to cover. I regularly take online courses and enjoy intellectual challenges like crossword puzzles.
To overcome a fear of public speaking, I volunteered to lead a large monthly interdepartmental meeting, managing agendas and communications. I served as an adjunct college professor for 20 years while working full-time, volunteering, and raising a family.
I was honored to be selected as one of 9 out of 40,000 employees to teach a mandatory Leadership course at Hartford Healthcare.
Work Ethic & Reliability
I’ve consistently balanced multiple responsibilities — full-time work, part-time teaching, home renovation, and community service — often sleeping just a few hours a night.
I enjoy writing and have received awards for my poetry. My hobbies have included Back-Country camping (Grand Canyon, Pikes Peak), scuba diving, photography, astronomy, and playing guitar. I once walked a marathon. I value time with my two children above all else.
Originally from England, I traveled there alone as a teenager and have explored many parts of the world.
I am a hard-working, dedicated, and resilient self-starter with a deep passion for learning, service, and personal growth. I bring integrity, initiative, and a relentless work ethic to everything I do. I am now seeking an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a team that values commitment, character, and the drive to make a difference.
